Are your eyebrows low, sagging, or growing uneven as you age? Do they give your eyes a perpetual dull and tired look? Are you increasingly frustrated with the deep lines on your forehead? As you age, the muscles and skin on your forehead lose elasticity and the ability to bounce back, causing wrinkles to form around your eyes and forehead and giving your eyebrows and eyes a droopy, tired look. If you are frustrated with the effect of the aging process on your eyebrows and forehead, a brow lift in Prince George’s County might be right for you.
Various brow lift procedures are available to reduce the appearance of eyebrows and forehead wrinkles by raising the soft tissue and muscles of the forehead and brow. At our office in Maryland, our double-board certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Namita Murthy, can guide you toward the brow and forehead lift procedure that meets your needs.
Dr. Namita Murthy utilizes several different brow lift techniques in Prince George’s County based on your desired results, existing features, and preferences. For example, if you have thick eyebrows, you may be a candidate for a direct brow lift, which removes the skin above the eyebrows. A direct brow lift can be done using local anesthesia on an outpatient basis.
If you have a high, receding hairline, you may be a candidate for a hairline brow lift, where your surgeon will make an incision between the top of the forehead and the beginning of the hairline during this procedure. In a hairline brow lift, a small amount of skin and tissue is removed from the top of the forehead to improve the appearance of a high hairline.
If you prefer a procedure with minimal scarring, you may be a candidate for an endoscopic brow lift. In this procedure, your surgeons insert instruments into smaller incisions to tighten the tissues from underneath the skin. Since endoscopic brow lifts do not involve removing forehead skin and tissues, these procedures require less healing time and result in less scarring.
If you are not likely to lose your hair or have thinning hair, you may also be a candidate for a coronal brow lift. In a coronal brow lift, a more extensive incision is placed behind the hairline and is a good choice for patients with a short forehead.
Depending on the brow lift technique you select, the procedure itself can take place in a doctor’s office, an outpatient surgical facility, or an inpatient surgical facility in Prince George’s County. The type of anesthesia will similarly depend on the type of forehead lift procedure you select and can range from general anesthesia, where you will be put to sleep during the procedure, to local anesthesia, which only numbs the area addressed by the procedure.
The brow lift procedure itself usually lasts between one to two hours and will require two to three weeks of recovery time, with most patients returning to work within two weeks of the brow lift. The incision sites will be bandaged by your surgeon, and in some cases, your surgeon may place a drainage tube at the site of your incisions, which will be removed one or two days after the brow lift procedure. You should expect some degree of swelling and bruising, which can be soothed with cold compresses. Your surgeon will also prescribe pain medication that will help with pain management in the first few days after the surgery.
After a brow lift procedure, you may experience numbness and later itching at the incision sites, which is normal and will go away as the scars heal. Overtime scarring should become minimal as the healing process completes or due to the location of the scars themselves, which are usually hidden by the hair or natural skin creases.
If you find yourself increasingly frustrated by your sagging eyebrows and deeply wrinkled forehead, a brow lift might be an option for you. Our surgeons offer a variety of brow and forehead lift techniques, so you are sure to find one to meet your needs. The procedure itself lasts only one to two hours, and with a two- to three-week recovery time, you can be looking your best in less than a month.
