The Lines Have Been Drawn

It happens to us all. You wake up one day, and the person you see in the mirror doesn’t quite match the image of the person in your head. There are lines etched across your face, sagging skin where your jaw used to be, and an overall tired appearance. These conditions are why many seek out Dr. Namita Murthy, our skilled Annapolis, MD facelift specialist. Skin and tissues naturally lose their elasticity as we grow older. This process causes sagging and wrinkles to occur. A facelift raises and tightens these tissues. Removing excess skin, smoothing out folds or wrinkles, and strengthening facial tissue are some of the specific issues addressed with one of Dr. Murthy’s facelifts.

What is A FACELIFT?

CREATES A MORE YOUTHFUL
APPEARANCE

A facelift offers many benefits for those looking to improve their appearance.

It can lift and tighten sagging skin, remove unwanted fat, smooth out wrinkles and frown lines, and remove jowls to sharpen your jawline; creating a more youthful appearance. But a facelift not only has a positive effect on what others see. It may also improve the way you see yourself, giving you confidence and a new sense of energy.

What is the Best FACELIFT FOR ME?

YOUR FACELIFT CONSULTATION

Dr. Murthy offers multiple styles of facelift, depending on your specific needs.

When you come in to see Annapolis Facial Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Murthy, for your facelift consultation, you will get to discuss how each of the following styles of facelift can address your particular concerns. Then, you and Dr. Murthy will determine which facelift is right for you.

Mini-Facelift

Mini-facelifts are ideal for patients with slight jowls and sagging skin. This less invasive approach allows Dr. Murthy to tighten your muscles and facial tissues through a few small incisions, resulting in minimal scarring that can be easily hidden behind the ears or along the hairline. Structural tissues around the cheeks are raised and tightened through these incisions to correct hanging jowls, refine the jawline, and rejuvenate a “tired” look for our Annapolis MD mini-facelift patients.

Mid-Facelift

A mid-facelift, as the name implies, focuses on the middle of the face. It is possible to smooth and tighten the loose skin and creases in the region under the eye. However, in the lips, the most noticeable changes are seen with a mid-face lift as it is raised for a dramatic effect.

Full SMAS Facelift

A SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) facelift will tackle mild to advanced aging around the face and neck more thoroughly. While the surgery is more comprehensive than a mini-facelift and requires more recovery time, the outcomes are more pronounced.

Additional Reading

This is the most common type of facelift Dr. Murthy performs, due to its combination of impressive results and reasonable recovery time. With a SMAS facelift, Dr. Murthy can remove excess skin as well as tighten the muscular system beneath the skin. This results in a more natural-looking appearance than just tightening the skin alone, avoiding the “windblown” look from older generations of facelifts.

Non-Surgical Facelift

A non-surgical facelift, intended to rejuvenate and refresh the appearance, is a mixture of minimally invasive and nonsurgical procedures. With no post-op pain and limited downtime, the nonsurgical facelift procedures are a less invasive (but also less comprehensive) method of reducing the visible signs of facial aging.

What to Expect
During FACELIFT RECOVERY

RECOVERY PLAN

Facelifts are generally an outpatient procedure, meaning you will be allowed to go home if you have someone to drive you following the procedure. You will not be allowed to drive yourself home, as you will still be recovering from the anesthesia.

You will experience some bruising and swelling after a surgical facelift. This recovery period generally lasts about two to three weeks, depending on the particular treatment you select and your body’s healing speed. Even though you may not want to go out in public at that time, you should begin to feel better in the first few days after surgery. Dr. Murthy provides you with a specific recovery timetable and instructions based on your specific procedure. Our Annapolis facelift patients who follow these post-op instructions have better outcomes and improved healing times, so it is important to incorporate these practices into your recovery plan.

Your Facelift Results

The noticeable enhancements of a facelift emerge as swelling and bruising subside. Not only will your outcome have a more youthful and restful look, but it should also make you feel more positive about yourself. The benefits of your facelift can be extended with diligent sun protection and a healthy lifestyle.

Facelift FAQs

PLASTIC SURGERY IN ANNAPOLIS, MD

What is the best age for a facelift?

Most people elect to get a facelift sometime between their 40s and 50s. But you can achieve good results at older ages as well.

Will my face have a tight or “pulled back” look?

When correctly done, a facelift is designed to leave you with a natural appearance. Those around you will notice the results, not the procedure.

Will scars be visible?

Incisions for a facelift typically begin at the temple above the hairline and run just inside the cartilage at the front of the ear in a natural line and proceed to the lower scalp inside the hairline behind the earlobe. Generally, these are covered behind the hairline or in a natural crease. After several months, the scars are almost invisible.
